Men's League

E-mail Print
HeatherGlen Men’s League is setup to provide a fun and enjoyable experience for all members of the league. Our League runs on Tuesday Nights, from Early May until Latye September. Each evening the mens league plays an 18 hole round of golf and competes in a Match Play format to earn points. These points are earned all season, and determine positioning in the Playoffs. We expect that all participants in the league conduct themselves in a manner that is respectful to all fellow competitors, The HeatherGlen Golf Club and of course the game of Golf.

Format:
The HeatherGlen Men’s Corporate League is a season that begins in May and ends in August, with playoffs to follow. Every week each team will be playing against another team in a two-man best ball format. Each player on the team plays his own ball until completing the hole, then the lower of the two net scores is recorded as the team net score for that hole. This is not a scramble format; The winner of the hole will be the lower of the two team net scores.

The Match:
The 18 hole round will be divided into three matches worth one point each. The First of the three matches is on the front 9, the second match is on the back nine, and the last match is for the entire 18 holes. You will receive one point for winning the front nine, one point for winning the back nine and another point for the whole 18 holes. In order to win a hole you have to make the lowest net score. If both team’s low net score is a tie, the hole is halved. A players’ net score is a total of strokes taken on the hole less any strokes given for handicap. On the 1st Handicap hole, a player who receives one stroke will reduce their stroke score by 1. (Example: A score of 6 will be a net score of 5 after one handicap stroke is removed.)

Handicaps:
In order to make it an equal playing field, we will be incorporating a handicap system. This league will use only 75% of your actual handicap. So if you are a 20 handicap your league handicap will be 15. Your handicap will be used to determine whether you will receive or be giving any strokes to your opponent. In either situation, strokes shall be given on the hardest to easiest holes. All handicaps should be specified before teeing off on the first hole. The group should also be made aware of all holes which strokes will be given. Handicaps will be kept by the pro shop and will be adjusted after every week of play.

Example:
Golfer                              Handicap            75% of Handicap             Strokes
Team Ralph (Ralph)             12                                 9                        (9 – 3)   =   6
Team Ralph (Sam)               20                               15                      (15 – 3)   =   12
Team Joe (Joe)                     8                                  6                        (6 – 3)   =   3
Team Joe (Bob)                    4                                  3                        (3 – 3)   =   0

In this example, Bob has the lowest handicap, and his handicap of 3 (adjusted) is subtracted from the other group members. If you do not have a registered handicap we will give you a handicap of 15 until we can establish an official cap. (If players can provide 5 scorecards we can establish a handicap) Players will be required to hand in scorecards after every round for scoring and handicap purposes.

Strokes:
To determine on which holes strokes will be given have a look at the handicap section on the scorecards. Each hole is numbered from one to nine, meaning 1 being the most difficult, and 9 being the least difficult. Strokes will be given starting on the hardest holes being handicap 1, working your way to the easiest hole until you run out of strokes. With Heatherglen not being an 18 hole course like most, our handicap system works as three separate nine hole courses.  So to make the handicap system work you have to divide the number of strokes each player will receive by two and take the same amount on the front nine as the back nine according to the course handicap system. For odd number of strokes, take the extra stroke on the front nine.
